bird watercolors
Birds have been a subject for my watercolor painting since I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2015. I found a connection to my environment and the nature of Forest Park which surrounds me. Birds fascinate me, as I listen to their song, look carefully at their color, the patterns of feathers on their wings, the various shapes and sizes which I carefully admire as I paint in watercolor. With great care, I begin a painting with an intention of a portrait, with proportion and size as I see the bird in real life. As I paint, I allow the natural fluidity and flow of the watercolor paint to act naturally. My paintings of birds become something that I have translated onto paper, with gesture, spontaneity, and a loose brush stroke. Yet keeping in mind the character of the bird and the natural beauty they reside in.
